Womens Health and Incontinence

1. Incontinence Program

  • Do you know that 1 in 3 women who have had a baby wet themselves?
  • Did you know that 1 in 3 residents in nursing homes are there because they are incontinent?

Incontinence in women is most often caused by a weakening of the pelvic floor muscles which form a sling or hammock from the pelvic bone to the tail bone. These muscles support your bladder, bowel and uterus/vagina holding them up in place. If the support is gone this can cause incontinence and/or prolapse of these organs.

A Weak Pelvic Floor can be caused by:

  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Constipation (straining)
  • Chronic cough (smoking, asthma, bronchitis)
  • Persistent heavy lifting
  • Being overweight
  • Hormonal changes at menopause
  • Chronic back pain

Some Symptoms Are:

  • Going to the toilet more than 6 times a day
  • Going throughout the night more than 1-2 times
  • Strong feeling of urgency to empty your bladder
  • Loss of urine with a cough/sneeze, jumping, running, etc

Don't let the easily treatable problem impact on your quality of your life. Help is at hand. At Warby Street Physiotherapy our Continence Physiotherapists are specially trained to treat this problem.

The person suffering from this problem is eligible for Medicare. The relevant EPC (Enhanced Primary Care) form plus a copy of the Care Plan is required from your GP

2. Mastectomy Operation
Post mastectomy women should be given a home regimen that they must do permanently - if rediotherapy is involve, skin care is also a necessity. Home programs are simple & are effective in pain reduction & improvement in lymphatic drainage. If lymphatic drainage becomes a problem then attendance at our Hydrotherapy Centre will assit in fluid control.

Please call (02) 4625 5447 #1 for an appointment with Diana.

3. OA Hip
Prevention of the progression of OA in the hips can be achieved by a very simple capsular stretching program & muscle strengthening program. Usually this takes only 2 treatments to ensure that the patient has no problems with the program, with an assessment 3 months latter to determine the degree of progress.

4. Osteoporosis Gym Program
As so many women suffer from osteoporosis it is recommended they attend for our simple home program & / or hydrotherapy as is required. Please see osteoporosis information under "Gym Programs"
