Core Stability of the Lumbar Spine Program
- a works hardening program for
the
Lumbar Spine |
It
has been clearly established that workers
who undergo a period of inactivity,
whether due to injury, sedentary duties
and lifestyle, prolonged leave, have
a reduced mobility, strength, endurance
and co-ordination. From this they are
predisposed to subsequent injury. An
active approach to rehabilitation has
been found to result in a more rapid
and successful return to work.
The Core Stability of the Lumbar Spine Program is a specific program
for all persons who have sustained a
back injury, based on the latest current
research on Lumbar Spine stabilisation
methods. It
is an intensive program designed to
retrain and re-educate optimal strengthening
of the stabilisation muscle groups of
the Lumbar Spine to achieve a functional
core stability. It's aim is to regain
normal muscle flexibility and strength
with associated lumbar stability thus
enabling the person tho return to their
employment with reasonable pain control
and safety.
Although
it can be done as individual treatment
the ideal situation is an intensive
six (6) week course consisting of:-
-
23 specific and intensive 1 hour exercise
& training sesions.
- 1
Back Care session - anatomy of the
lumbar spine; education on lumbar
protection, correct lifting techniques;
ADL management procedures.
- 18
Hydrotherapy sessions specially designed
for lumbar stabilisation, improvement
of strength and endurance, and discal
injuries.
- 1
final assessment.
- Provision
of a report to the referring Doctor
with a copy to the relevant Insurance
Company. This
program is considered essential for
all persons who are back injured particularly
for discal, ligamentous, hypermobility
injuries and post lumbar surgeries.
